TLC Pet Food was founded in 1994 to provide the highest quality pet products to fellow pet lovers. TLC has grown from a family operated specialty pet food company to a privately held corporation providing top quality pet products in the United States, Canada and around the world.
Like many other successful companies, TLC started with a mission. Early in the 1990's TLC's founder, Erik Kuttis, was frustrated with the level of quality in commercial pet foods. As a pet lover, Kuttis wanted nutritious, life-enhancing food for his pets. Unable to find such a product he made it his mission to develop one. Retaining some of North America's top nutritionists, Kuttis developed the original TLC formula. Being one of the first foods with two concentrated meat ingredients as the first two ingredients and no added chemicals or preservatives gave TLC the formula it needed. Dogs and cats loved the food!
The problem was how to let people know. People needed to be educated to understand the value of quality. A lower price did not equate to lower cost. Feeding a quality product does not cost more and in fact can save you money. As the commercial pet food industry is dominated by a handful of multi-billion dollar corporations, trying to compete traditionally would be virtually impossible. By the time the food lands in your pet's bowl, so many costs have been added that the cost of the actual food has been multiplied many times. Corporate overhead, warehousing, distribution, advertising, retail profit etc. all cost money. TLC wanted to invest on what's in the bag, not on the bag.
TLC made a bold decision to avoid all of those added costs and deal directly with the customer. TLC would educate you to the benefits of a nutritious and natural food for your pet and then deliver the food right to you free of charge. This was revolutionary in the pet industry. Everyone said it could not be done. But TLC decided to try it anyway. The original shipments went out in old tissue boxes and customers were few and far between but word started spreading quickly. People were seeing the positive changes in their pets and the results spoke for themselves.
With the advent of the internet and social media, TLC’s philosophy of how to educate pet lovers became easier. Our original formula has been enhanced with research and development and technological advancement but our mission is the same. Feeding TLC to your pets is an "everyone wins" scenario.
